Over the years, we have conducted studies and field projects focused on achieving water security and improving air quality in Monterrey and its metropolitan area.























Payment for Environmental Services.

Objective:

To maintain and enhance ecosystem conditions and forest cover in selected areas, contributing to key environmental services such as water capture, biodiversity conservation, and climate change mitigation.

Methodology:

The project is implemented through collaboration agreements where CONAFOR and FAMM provide funding for payments to environmental service providers in forested areas within Cumbres de Monterrey National Park. Key activities include:

1. Development and Execution of the Best Management Practices Program (PMPM): Design and implementation of sustainable management practices tailored to each plot's specific needs, aiming to conserve and improve ecosystem conditions.

2. Financial Contributions: Joint funds are used to pay environmental service providers for implementing conservation and sustainable management practices.

3. Supervision and Monitoring: Annual evaluations to verify compliance with conservation activities in the designated areas.

4. Payments to Environmental Service Providers: Electronic transfers to service providers, contingent on fulfilling the activities established in the management programs.


Key Components:

Joint Fund: Financial contributions from CONAFOR, FAMM, and occasionally Cervecería Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma, to fund payments for environmental service providers.

Committed Area: 13,452.71 hectares of strategic forest areas spread across various ejidos and communities within Cumbres de Monterrey National Park.

Best Management Practices Program (PMPM): Implementation of forest conservation and sustainable management activities in the benefited areas.


Project highlights:

Conservation Area: The project covers 13,452.71 hectares of forested land within Cumbres de Monterrey National Park, distributed across key properties.

Substantial Financial Support: Significant economic contributions for the conservation of key forest ecosystems, with a total joint fund exceeding 14 million pesos.

Continuous Supervision: Annual monitoring ensures compliance with conservation objectives and the proper use of financial resources.


Users: Local communities, forest landowners, and environmental management organizations in Nuevo León.

Environmental Service Providers:

1. Ejido Laguna de Sánchez: 1,000 hectares of forest conservation.

2. Ejido La Trinidad: 2,500 hectares committed to conservation activities.

3. Community of San Sebastián: 615 hectares dedicated to environmental services.

4. Community of San Juan Bautista: 1,700 hectares for ecosystem conservation.

5. Community of Canoas: 1,235 hectares focused on forest resource preservation.

6. Community of San Antonio de la Osamenta: 1,950 hectares of sustainable management.

7. Ejido Mauricio: 852.71 hectares under sustainable practices.

8. Community of San Sebastián (additional): 1,100 hectares.

9. Community of La Ciénega: 2,500 hectares for conservation and forest management.

Impact:

The project supports the conservation and restoration of critical forest areas within Cumbres de Monterrey National Park, promoting sustainable environmental services, including water capture, climate change mitigation, and biodiversity protection. It also encourages active community participation in natural resource management.
